ANATOMY OF PLACE
Many modern living environments feel more like 'machines to live in' than inspiring 'works of art' that resonate deeply with human experience. This disconnect arises from a creative process stifled by regulations and economic systems that treat our homes and neighbourhoods as financial commodities rather than integrated spaces for community and nature.
In response to this dilemma, real estate entrepreneur François de la Caffinière is developing a new book project, Anatomy of Place, that investigates what truly creates desirable living environments. Stemming from personal reflection, the book confronts these initial insights with the perspectives of leading experts—from architects and urbanists to technologists and financiers—to build a comprehensive vision for the future of place. The project explores the critical components of place-making, posing the question of whether developers and policymakers should adopt the role of 'artistic directors of the built environment'.
